WHAT: Intergenerations: Toshi Reagon and Friends
As part of the summer season of its yearlong initiative, BLACK BROOKLYN RENAISSANCE, Brooklyn Arts Council Presents “Intergenerations: Toshi Reagon and Friends” at Southpaw in Park Slope on Thursday, July 29 at 9pm. The legendary singer and composer backed by her band BIGLovely, will partner with a group of Brooklyn-based women musicians for a multi-generational, musical celebration of the African Diaspora. Special guests include hardcore-soul queen Tamar-kali, and soulful singers Karma Mayet Johnson, Sun Singleton and Stephanie Battle.
Black Brooklyn Renaissance (February 2010– February 2011), features performances, exhibitions, screenings, symposia and workshops, a conference, an oral history project and an archive celebrating the African Diaspora in Brooklyn.
