The 3.35 mile Park Drive attracts cyclists of all
levels. Please stay in the appropriate lane when drives
are open to automobile traffic and remember to follow
the indicated traffic direction stencils. Bicycling
is not permitted anywhere in the Park except on the
roadway. Please see Safety and Rules for Drive hours.
Annual racing events like the NYC Spring Bicycle Racing
Series and the New York Cycling Series take place in
Prospect Park and other sites around the City.
Get a different view of the Park by touring the Lullwater
and the Lake on an electric boat or a pedal boat. Prospect
Park contains Brooklyn's only Lake, and at 60 acres
there's plenty of room to glide about the gentle surface
to your heart's content. When you do, you'll see the
Park's vibrant water inhabitants close-up. Private
boats are not allowed in Prospect Park. There is no
boating in the Park November through March.
Horseback riding is a tradition in Prospect Park,
with a 3.5-mile bridle path through scenic and varied
terrain, including woodlands, meadows and a ravine.
The bridle path begins at the Park Circle entrance
(the intersection of Coney Island Ave., Parkside Ave.,
and Prospect Park Southwest) and continues along the
Lake to the Long Meadow and the Midwood.
Horses are available for rental from nearby Kensington
Stables daily from 10:00 A.M. to sunset. These stables, dating from
the late 19th century, are the last remaining of hundreds in the area.
Kensington Stables also offers pony rides and parties. Call ahead for
reservations.
