MEETINGS IN BROOKLYN
NATIONAL
ORGANIZATION FOR RARE DISORDERS
NORD is a federation of more than 140 not-for-profit
voluntary health organizations that provides information
for people with rare disorders and their families. The
site is focused on the approximately 5,000 rare (or "orphan")
diseases that afflict more than 20 million Americans.
ABILITY
ONLINE
Ability Online is a simple Web site dedicated to
informing parents and connecting young people with special
needs to their peers and mentors. The site develops mailing
lists of kids who want to share and explore their experiences
with others.
THE
STUTTERING HOMEPAGE
Sorting out the issues for children who stutter is
a difficult challenge (the acronym page alone runs a full
page). This site also provides a special section, "Especially
for Parents," that includes guides and contact information
from the Stuttering Foundation of America, the National
Stuttering Project, and other resources.
FAMILY
EDUCATION NETWORK
Family Education Network is the online home of EXCEPTIONAL
PARENT, a great magazine for parents of children with
a wide range of special needs. FEN enhances the magazine
content with discussion groups and links to information
about political issues of interest to parents.
VOLUNTEER
PREVENTION GROUP is a non-profit HIV/AIDS prevention
organization in Brooklyn offering educational, support
and counseling programs for prevention, serving youth
and families.
